HARAR (Semonegna)–Haramaya University’s Harar College of Health and Medical Sciences graduated 192 medical doctors, on its 5th round graduation ceremony, from the School of Medicine on December 23, 2017. Among them, 21 are female graduates.
The graduation ceremony, which was held at the College’s campus in Harar town (23 kms from the main campus of the University), was opened by the University’s President, Professor Chemeda Fininsa, by welcoming the graduates as well as guests of the ceremony followed by an opening speech. On his speech, Professor Chemeda addressed that Haramaya University is taking its own role in Ethiopia’s aspiration to significantly improve the quality, value and coverage of health care which as one of the main part of the Second Growth and Transformation Plan (GTP-II) the country has been implementing since 2016.
The graduates have received their degrees from the guest of honor of the ceremony, Mr. Murad Abdulhadi, President of the Harari Regional State. Mr. Murad, speaking to the graduates after they took the Hippocratic Oath to serve their community and the country with their profession, said that the graduating doctors should strive to serve their communities diligently as so much is expected from them, as citizens as well as professional. He added, a lot is expected from such professionals in order to improve the lives of Ethiopian people in all aspects.
Speaking to journalists from the Ethiopian Broadcasting Corporation (EBC), some of the graduates said that they are ready to serve their people and the country with commitment.
Harar College of Health and Medical Sciences was established by Haramaya University in 1996, in accordance with the country’s national health policy, long-term plan of the government and mandate given to the higher-education institutions to train skilled professionals, in accordance with an objective to train competent medical doctors and other health professionals. The Campus is found in the historic Harar town, about 370km from the capital Addis Ababa.
