Ethiopia has managed to mitigate and avoid food shortages: FAO representative Patrick Kormawa, PhD
ADDIS ABABA–Apart from security threats, African countries also regularly have to deal with emergencies related to food security. According to the UN Food and Agriculture Organization (FAO), Ethiopia has done an exemplary work in crisis management, when it comes to handling drought-related challenges. In an interview with CGTN’s Girum Chala, FAO’s representative to the African Union Patrick Kormawa said Ethiopia has managed to avoid what could become serious food crisis in the country. Dr. Kormawa has been working, since May 2015, as Subregional Coordinator for Eastern Africa (SFE) and FAO Representative to the African Union (AU) and to the UN Economic Commission for Africa (ECA).
FAO Director-General José Graziano da Silva recently pressed that climate change is posing a major risk for rural people in developing countries, often leading to distress-driven migration, and hence bolstering sustainable agriculture is an essential part of an effective policy response to mitigate as well as food crisis.
