St. Paul’s Hospital Millennium Medical College to Start Kidney Dialysis in 10 Cities

St. Paul’s Hospital Millennium Medical College, for the first time in the history of the country, is training four professionals in kidney transplantation surgery.

ADDIS ABABA (ENA)–Millennium Medical College of Saint Paul’s Hospital announced that it will start kidney dialysis in 10 cities across the country. 

The Kidney Transplantation Center established on the premises of the college has also provided treatment for more than 40 people.

Academic and Research Vice Provost of the College, Dr. Wondemagegn Gezahegn, told ENA that the college is making preparations to start kidney dialysis treatment in selected 10 cities.

Training and installations of medical equipment are underway, he added.

According to him, Jimma, Gondar, Hawassa, Harar, Dire Dawa, Dessie, Adama, Asela, Arba Minch and Addis Ababa are selected based on the number of kidney patients they send to the hospital.

The Vice Provost stated that the center has also carried out successfully 40 kidney transplantations.

The College, for the first time in the history of the country, is training four professionals in kidney transplantation surgery, he revealed.

The Vice Provost said the center is currently utilizing 18 dialysis machines and 40 additional machines will become operation soon.

On the other hand, the College is building a cardiac treatment center with 250 beds at a cost of about 180 million birr.

The Center, which will be operational after three months, will help provide heart surgery, Dr. Wondemagegn said.

Besides, a center for intestinal disorders with 350 beds for cancer patients is under construction.
