BISHOFTU (AAU)–The College of Veterinary Medicine and Agriculture of Addis Ababa University (AAU) graduated a total of 179 students on July 14, 2018 at the Bishoftu Campus Hall.
Out of the total number of graduates, eleven earned their PhDs; thirty nine had their Masters while the remaining graduated with Doctors of Veterinary Medicine and a B.Sc. in Veterinary Laboratory Technology.
Guest of honor of the ceremony Jeilu Oumer, PhD, Academic Vice President of the AAU, extended his congratulatory message to the graduates, families and all those behind their success and stated that Ethiopia has the largest number of heads of cattle in Africa although the benefits the country reaps from this resource is far less than it should be.
“Today’s graduates should take the dual responsibilities of improving the well-being of animals and increasing earnings from the export of animal by products,” said Dr. Jeilu.
The graduates then recited the Hippocratic Oath.
Dean of the College, Dinka Ayana, PhD, noted that as the pioneer in training professionals of veterinary medicine, the college has been providing training and community service to improve the well-being of animals.
“The college works diligently to become a Center of Excellency in East Africa. To offer quality education, the college regularly undertakes curriculum revision,” said the Dean. Apart from teaching-learning, said Dr. Dinka, the college offers community services on animal health protection and care.
The Addis Ababa University Cultural Center entertained the gathering and warmed the ceremony with a variety of graduation songs.
