Ethiopia pays tributes to late former Cuban leader Fidel Castro
Sunday marked former Cuban leader Fidel Castro’s funeral. Across the globe, countries held memorials in honor of him. In Ethiopia, large crowds gathered to pay tributes. Ethiopia and Cuba have had close ties since 1977, when the Somali government invaded Ogaden, in eastern Ethiopia. At that time Castro offered to send tens of thousands of military personnel to help Addis Ababa. Few months later, Ethiopia defeated Somalia with the help of the Cuban military. Other African countries are also hugely indebted to Cuba.
