Haramaya University graduates 220 medical, nursing students

Among Haramaya University’s Class of 2018 graduates, 173 of them are medical and the remaining 47 are nursing students, and from the total graduates 38 are females.

HARAR (HU)–Haramaya University’s College of Health and Medical Sciences graduated 220 medical and nursing students on December 22, 2018.

Among the graduates, 173 of them are medical doctors and the remaining 47 are nursing, and from the total graduates 38 are females. The event was held at the University’s Health Campus in Harar. The College is also celebrating its 10th year anniversary.

In the graduation ceremony Dr. Amir Aman, Federal Ministry of Health Minister, Mr. Odrin Bedri, Harari Regional State President and other invited guests along with graduating students’ families were presents.

Prof. Jeylan Wolye, Delegated President and Vice-president for Administration and Students Affairs conveyed his best wishes to the graduating students and their families and said, “You, the graduates, have a great responsibility to contribute to the solution of the country’s health related problems, by working hard.”

Speaking on the ceremony, Dr. Amir said, “Health is not a saleable commodity, the health profession should be measured by how much healthy and happy society has been created. So, our goal is to construct a country with happy and healthy citizens. In this regard, today’s graduates should take your responsibility and serve the community to fulfill this.”

Mr. Odrin Bedri on his part said, “Haramaya University from the beginning has conducted and been conducting problem solving researches for the society as well as for the country in general. The University is providing versatile community services for alleviating social problems of eastern Ethiopia and the whole country. So, the Harari Regional State acknowledges these efforts and is willing to support and work with the University.” He added, “This graduation is also the manifesto of the contribution of Haramaya University to the country’s problem solving activities.” He added that the community expects a lot from today’s graduates and they have great responsibilities to carry out with a sense of professionalism.

Mr. Odrin presented high achieving students their awards, and the College’s founding administrative and academic, and long serving staff members received their recognition and awards from the hands of Dr. Amir.

The ceremony was transmitted live on the University’s community radio, HU FM 91.5.
