University of Gondar signed an agreement to collaborate with Fairbanks School of Public Health and Regenstrief Institute, Inc. of Indiana University (United States)
GONDAR (UoG) – The University of Gondar (UoG) entered into an agreement on 7th November 2019 with two academic and research institutions from the United States. The Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) that was signed by representatives from the University of Gondar, Indiana University’s Fairbanks School of Public Health and Regenstrief Institute, Inc. aim to progress health informatics in its many facets.
Some of the objectives of the agreement include the pursuit of research projects of mutual interest, mentoring and advising of doctoral students, enhance exchange programs for teaching and research as well as exchanging information regarding teaching methods, pedagogy, and resources.
Those who took part in the signing ceremony at the UoG’s Senate Hall included UoG President Dr. Asrat Atsedeweyn, UoG’s College of Medicine and Health Sciences (CMHS) Research Director and spearhead of the agreement Dr. Binyam Tilahun, CMHS Vice President Dr. Sisay Yifru, Regenstrief Institute representative Dr. Peter Embi, Founding dean of the Indiana University Richard M. Fairbanks School of Public Health at IUPUI Dr. Paul K. Halverson, UoG’s Research and Community Services Vice President Dr. Mersha Chanie, Academic Vice President Dr. Kassahun Tegene among other UoG officials.
The President of UoG expressed his delight and shared with those in attendance that Indiana University and their representatives should gain recognition for their commitment and effort to strengthen this partnership. “International partnerships are doing a lot for UoG and such agreements are assisting in areas that include staff development, staff/ student exchanges and joint grant writing,” said Dr. Asrat Atsedeweyn.
The delegation from Indiana University is looking to make this MoU an active agreement. The Richard M. Fairbanks School of Public Health was founded in 1969 and has recently celebrated its 50th anniversary. Indiana University has shared its commitment to seeing electronic medical record systems developed and optimized around the world.
