The 7th edition of Bego Sew Award

The Gamo elders of Arba Minch city, who showed the Ethiopian people how to win just by choosing peace and love rather than conflict and animosity, were honored with a special award at the 7th edition Bego Sew Award.

ADDIS ABABA (Semonegna)– Bego Sew Award has held its 7th round ceremony at Intercontinental-Addis Hotel in Addis Ababa, Ethiopia on September 1, 2019.

Bego Sew Award, founded by Dn. Daniel Kibret, to honor and recognize people who have made greater contribution to Ethiopia and its people/society. This year’s award ceremony, on which President Sahle-Work Zewde was the honorary guest, was the 7th of its kind since the Award’s inception in 2013.

People had been identifying the candidates for the nomination for four weeks in May-June 2019 and a total of 297 people were pointed out as possible candidates. Out of these, a total of 27 people were selected as nominees who were put into in ten categories. These nominees were then announced to the public in the first week of August so that people can vote for the winner out of the nominees.

The Gamo elders, who won the hearts of millions of Ethiopians for their action of peaceful intervention to prevent a mob attack on businesses owned by Oromo people in Arba Minch city (SNNPR), have received a special ‘Bego Sew Award’ for his exceptional action during the intense time of the country.
