The online registration portal for the 9th All Africa University Games 2018 to be hosted by Mekelle Universityin the City of Mekelle, Ethiopia is now open. The General program is expected to run from 1st – 8th July 2018, while actual competition running for 5 days from 2nd – 6th.

  1. Eligibility: Athletes must be registered students of the same university aged at least 17 and less than 28 years of age on January 1st in the year of the event (24yrs for Basketball and 25yrs for Soccer/football). The games program includes Athletics, Badminton, 3×3 Basketball, Basketball, Chess, Football, Volleyball, Handball, Table Tennis and Tennis.
  2. World University League Finals: 3×3 Basketball (2men & 2 Women – China 2018) and Soccer (2 Men & 1 Women – China 2019) shall qualify teams for the World University League Finals and have all flight and accommodation costs covered.

  • The All-Africa University Games is a regional multi-sport event representing Africa, organized for university athletes by the African University Sports Federation (FASU). The games were first held in 1975 in Accra, Ghana where the last games were held in Windhoek, Namibia in 2012.
  • Headquartered in Kampala, Uganda, FASU is the continental ‘branch’ of the International University Sports Federation (FISU) and is the governing body of university sport in Africa. It was funded in 1971 by 10 African countries to improve the development of sports in African universities.
  • Mekelle University is a public university in Mekelle City, the capital of Tigray Regional State, northern part of Ethiopia. The University was established in 2000 by the Ethiopian government (via the Ministry of Education). As of 2017, the University had more than 26,500 students and more than 1,700 academic staff. The university has 7 colleges, 9 institutions and 10 schools overall. Dr. Kindeya Gebrehiwot, a professor of forestry, has been serving as the president of the university since February 2013.
