AAU's College of Veterinary Medicine Graduates 117 Students

BISHOFTU (AAU)―The College of Veterinary Medicine and Agriculture of the Addis Ababa University (AAU) graduated 117 students on July 15, 2017 at Bishoftu Campus.

The College graduated 8 PhD students, 57 Masters and 52 Doctors of Veterinary Medicine (DVM) for 4^th, 17^th and 33^rd times, respectively.

As the pioneer in training professionals of veterinary medicine, Dean of the College, Dinka Ayana (DVM) noted that the college has been providing training and community service to improve the well-being of animals.

“The College works diligently to become a Center of Excellency in East Africa. To offer quality education, the college regularly undertakes curriculum revision, improves facilities like internet service and digitizing books,” said the Dean.

He also added, “Apart from teaching-learning, the college offers community services on animal health protection and care.”

Guest of honor of the ceremony Jeilu Oumer (PhD), Academic Vice President of the AAU, extended his congratulatory message to the graduates and stated that Ethiopia has the largest number of heads of cattle in Africa although the benefits the country reaps from this resource is far less than it should be.

“Today’s graduates should take the dual responsibilities of improving the well-being of animals and increasing earnings from the export of animal by products,” said Dr. Jeilu.

The graduates then recited the Hippocratic Oath.

In its 37 years of existence, the College trained 1,890 assistant VMDs, 178 laboratory technicians, 1,385 VMDs, 461 specialists and 25 PhD holders.
