Ambassador Fitsum Arega presented Copies of Credentials to the US Chief of Protocol

As a matter of established practice in the United States, Ambassador Fitsum Arega will start his duty upon the presentation of his credentials to head of the U.S. government.

WASHINGTON, D.C. (Embassy of Ethiopia)–Mr. Fitsum Arega, Special Envoy, Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary Ambassador of the Federal Democratic Republic of Ethiopia to the United States of America presented, on 1st April 2019, Copies of Credentials to the United States Chief of Protocol, Ambassador Sean P. Lawler.

During the Ceremony, Ambassador Fitsum Arega expressed his commitment to further enhance the two countries’ longstanding relations by focusing on economic opportunities, including investment and trade. Ambassador Fitsum also emphasized that United States’ assistance in beefing up the capacity of the Government of Ethiopia is of critical importance so that the ongoing reform process in the his country will be successful and irreversible.

On his part, Ambassador Sean P. Lawler stated that all necessary steps will be taken to facilitate for Ambassador Fitsum to present his Letters of Credence to President Donald Trump next week. As a matter of established practice in the United States, all designated ambassadors will start their duties upon the presentation of their credentials to head of the government.

Ambassador Tibor P. Nagy, the United States Assistant Secretary of State for African Affairs as well as Mrs. Makila James, Deputy Assistant Secretary for East Africa also attended the Ceremony, and expressed their commitment to work collaboratively with the newly appointed ambassador.

Ambassador Fitsum Arega replaces Kassa Tekleberhan who has been Ethiopia’s ambassador to the United States since December 2017.
