Bahir Dar University graduates 2nd batch architecture students

BAHIR DAR (Semonegna)–Bahir Dar University (BDU) Institute of Land Administration (ILA) has graduated the 2nd batch 29 Architecture students in a ceremony held at Auditorium Hall, Peda Campus of the University in the City of Bahir Dar, Amhara Regional State.

While making welcoming speech, Dr. Achamyeleh Gashu, Dean of the Institute of Land Administration, has made a brief explanation about the institute and the works it has been undertaking to become a center of excellence in land administration and related fields. He also noted that the objective of opening the Department of Architecture within the institute is to produce qualified architects who are capable of conducting architectural designs particularly for urban development and construction.

As Ethiopia is undergoing a transformation by prioritizing a wealth of construction projects in order to stimulate its economy, reinvigorate its infrastructure and supply affordable housing and power to its population of close to 100 million. Construction is a huge part of the country’s economic recovery. The building sector has seen double digit growth, expanding by 37% annually, and is ushering in a new phase of development for the country. In order to keep up with this construction boom and urbanization, the country is need of as many architectural experts and related manpower as possible. Such institutes as BDU’s ILA play an important role in producing competent, creative, critically minded and ethical professional designers, builders.

The graduation was celebrated in the presence of Ato Tesfaye Getachew, head of Amhara National Regional State (ANRS) Trade, Industry and Market Development Bureau and chairman of Bahir Dar University Board, Dr. Firew Tegegne Amogne (President of the University), and other dignitaries.

In its first batch graduation ceremony, which was held last year (February 25, 2017) at Grand Resort and Spa, ILA graduated 25 architecture students.

In related news, Debre Markos University‘s College of Health Sciences in collaboration with Debre Markos Referral Hospital graduated 39 medical students, in its 2nd round graduation ceremony.
