Tegegnework Gettu (PhD) has been appointed as the Chairperson of the Liability and Asset Management Corporation (LAMC).

The Corporation will be focusing on absorbing and administering the state-owned Enterprises debts; managing assets and liabilities; and handling the investment activities of the enterprises that will fall under its portfolio. The members of the Board of Directors are as follows:

Dr. Tegegnework Gettu: Chairperson of the Board of Directors (BOD) of LAMC

Dr. Tegegework is a veteran of the United Nations system, who brings with him more than three decades of international public service experience. In his most recent positions, prior to retirement, Dr. Tegegework served as the Undersecretary General of the UN and Associate Administrator of the United Nations Development Programme (UNDP) from 2015 to 2018.  Dr. Tegegework has served on a number of high-ranking positions in the UNDP, both at the country level and at its headquarters in New York.

After his retirement from the UN in 2018, he has been serving on various advisory roles and on the boards of different institutions in Ethiopia. He is currently the Chairperson of the Development Bank of Ethiopia, where he is tasked with reform of the Bank.  Dr. Tegegework holds a PhD degree and a dual MA degree from Columbia University, in New York (USA), and a BA degree from Addis Ababa University.

Helaway Tadesse: Member of BOD of LAMC

Ato Helaway Tadesse is a senior economist with decades of experience in the financial sector in Ethiopia and the International Monetary Fund (IMF). He is currently a Senior Director at Cepheus Capital, the largest private equity firm in Ethiopia, where he is responsible for transaction sourcing and execution and provides overall support and insights to the Investment and Operations teams. 

Prior to joining Cepheus Capital, Ato Helaway served for seven years as the Senior Vice President of Zemen Bank and spent a decade at IMF as a Senior Economist based in Washington, DC. He holds an MPA degree in Economics & Public Policy, from Princeton University, in New Jersey (USA) and a BA degree Economics, from Reed College, in Oregon (USA).

Meseret Bitew: Member of BOD of LAMC

Ato Meseret Bitew is a senior in the financial executive sector. He is a veteran of Ethiopian Airlines, where he moved the corporate ladder for the past three decades. He is currently the Chief Financial Officer of the airlines, where he defines and oversees the implementation of the airline’s strategies and its financial plans and operations. Ato Meseret is also in charge of all financial functions including management & financial accounting, budgetary control, credit, insurance, tax, and supplies chain management.

As one of the senior management of Ethiopian Airlines, Ato Meseret brings with him expertise from one of the successful public enterprises in Ethiopia. He holds an MBA degree from Open University Business School, in UK, and a BA degree in Accounting from Asmara University, Eritrea.

Wassihun Abate: Member of BOD of LAMC

Ato Wassihun is a senior legal expert, who brings with him nearly four decades of experience in the legal field, with a specialization in the finance sector. He specializes in taxation policy, investment financing, loan negotiations, and debt management.  He also has notable experience in the privatization and establishment of various state-owned enterprises. Most recently, he was the Director of the Ministry of Finance’s Legal Department for close to a decade. Ato Wassihun currently works as a consultant and advisor to the Ministry of Finance as well as various private and public entities.

Ato Wassihun holds an MA degree in International Revenue Administration from Canberra University (Australia) and an LLB from Addis Ababa University.
