ADDIS ABABA (Semonegna) – Dawit Abraham, a 24-year-old Ethiopian game developer will be launching a 3D Game, Kukulu, which will be the first of its kind to come out of Ethiopia.
Dawit Abraham, who has a Bachelor of Science degree in Computer Engineering from an Ethiopia university, was of one of the trainees at Gebeya – an Ethiopian IT academy training startup which was founded in 2016 by Amadou Daffe, a Senegalese native software developer, and Hiruy Amanuel, an investor and self-made entrepreneur of Ethiopian origin who was then based in Silicon Valley, California, U.S.A. While Gebeya’s training center is based in Addis Ababa, its marketing team is based in Nairobi, Kenya and it has two additional offices in Silicon Valley (USA) and London (UK). These marketplaces target professionals for the growing demand for qualified digital talents by enabling organizations, SMEs and entrepreneurs to hire top software developers on-demand.
Gebeya provides young African IT professionals with mentorship and guidance, and acts as a gateway connecting clients with high quality practical training to be used in accord with current technologies and platforms. After training, the startup places its graduate professionals onto its developer platform.
Gebeya had graduated its first batch of 70 software developers in May 2017, after an inaugural six-month program at its training academy in Addis Ababa, Ethiopia. It aims to graduate 5,000 students in Ethiopia over the next five years.
Dawit Abrahamis one of Gebeya’s top graduates in the mobile application engineering track. He has worked on several projects during and after training at Gebeya. And his startup Kukulu is also being incubated at Gebeya.
Kukulu is a 3D mobile runner game that tells the adventures of a brave chicken in the magical lands of Ethiopia.
