Grade 10 exam results’ cut-off points to join preparatory school

ADDIS ABABA (Semonegna.com)–The National Educational Assessment and Examinations Agency (NEAEA) has announced on Friday (September 07, 2018) the cut-off points of the 10th grade national examination results to enter to Second Cycle Secondary (commonly known as preparatory school). In Ethiopia’s education system, the preparatory school starts in grade 11 up to grade 12. After completing the preparatory school in grade 12, students are expected to take another national examination to join higher institution such as colleges and universities.

A total of 1,205,805 students (569,288 female and 636,572 male students) took the grade 10 national examination in 2018 (in Ethiopian calendar, the 2010 academic year). Of these, 889,885 students (423,334 female and 466,551 male students) were attending their education in regular program, according to NEAEA’s press statement.

About the 2018 grade 10 results

  • A total of 636,106 students (i.e., approximately 71.5%) who took the national exam scored 2.00 points or more.
  • The number of students who scored the highest possible score, which is 4.00, is 7,201, of which 2,375 are female students.

Cut-off points to join preparatory school (to start grade 11)

For those students who attended their education in regular and evening-shift programs, the cut-points are 2.71 for male students and 2.51 for female students. For those who took the exam privately, the cut-points are 3.43 for male students and 3.14 for female students.

For students who attended their education in agriculture-oriented and rural areas, the cut-points are 2.43 for male students and 2.29 for female students. Further blind and deaf students who took the exam, the cut-points are 2.14 for male students and 2.00 for female students.

Based on these cut-off points, a total of 350,000 students will be able to join preparatory school throughout the country.

Regular and evening-shift students

  • Male: 2.71 and above

Rural and agriculture-oriented areas students

  • Male: 2.43 and above
  • Female: 2.29 and above

Blind and deaf/hard-of-hearing students

  • Male: 2.14 and above
  • Female: 2.00 and above

Students who took the examination privately

  • Male: 3.43 and above
  • Female: 3.14 and above
