IAAF Inside Athletics: Season 05 Athlete Almaz Ayana
Almaz Ayana is an Ethiopian female long-distance runner who competes in middle- and long-distance tracks, that is in the 3000 meters, 5000 meters, as well as 10,000 meters. Born on November 21, 1991 in Benishangul-Gumuz Regional State of Ethiopia, she set a new 10,000 meters world record, breaking the previous one set in 1993, when winning gold in the event at the 2016 Summer Olympics in Rio de Janeiro on August 12. The International Association of Athletics Federations (IAAF) crowned Athlete Almaz as Female World Athlete of 2016 (along with Jamaica’s Usain Bolt in men’s category)
