ALEMGENA, Ethiopia (Semonegna)― Sika Abyssinia Chemicals Manufacturing PLC, a subsidiary of chemical specialty Swiss-company Sika AG which is headquartered in Baar, Switzerland, has officially inaugurated its construction chemicals manufacturing plant in the town of Alemgena, Oromia Regional State. The manufacturing plant has been operating pre-market production phase since January 2017.
During the inauguration ceremony, Jean des Martres, Africa Area Manager of Sika AG, said that Sika Abyssinia Chemicals Manufacturing PLC will be able to slash Ethiopia’s import of construction finishing chemicals by 50 per cent.
Since January 2017, Sika Abyssinia facility has been producing a full range of admixture products such as accelerators, retarders, water reducers, plasticizers and waterproofers and the facility recently started producing additional products such as sealing & bonding, refurbishment, flooring and roofing materials.
Mr. Martres also mentioned that the country’s booming construction will be an opportunity for Sika Abyssinia to have a substantial market opportunity and the company will play its major role in the country’s construction sector.
Ethiopian Investment Commission Director-General, Mr. Fitsum Arega on his part said that the opening of the company in the country will have a multifaceted advantages. He said, the manufacturer will bring modern and high-quality technology to the country, the production of such construction materials locally will facilitate and accelerate the construction projects, and it will save the country a significant amount of foreign exchange.
Sika Abyssinia has also a long-term plan to enter to other African markets by exporting its products from its chemicals manufacturing facility in Alemgena town.
