ADDIS ABABA (ECA) – Following the successes of the “Africa Business and Investment Forum” held in early 2018 and the “Africa Business: Health Forum” in 2019, the United Nations Economic Commission for Africa (ECA) has embarked on its third year of organizing a public -private sector dialogue as part of its mandate.
The Africa Business Forum: Investing in People, Planet and Prosperity, scheduled to take place on Tuesday, 11 February 2020, in Addis Ababa, Ethiopia on the margins of the 33rd Ordinary Summit of the African Union Assembly of Heads of State and Government.
The Business Forum aims to promote an ongoing dialogue between the African private and public sectors. It will foster opportunities for the private sector to contribute towards the collective efforts in addressing some of the key issues that have an impact on People, Planet and Prosperity. The dialogue will also benefit from the presence of Heads of State and other officials attending the Summit of the African Union.
Striking the appropriate balance and synergies between climate change vulnerability, adaptation and investments in key areas such as energy, health care, ICT and gender, which will certainly have an impact on future development paths for African countries. Applying innovative trans-disciplinary approaches to financing development that involve the three pillars of sustainability, namely the economic, social and environmental dimensions; and bringing the public and private sectors together to consult and forge cooperation, will optimize collective efforts to achieve Africa’s Agenda 2063 ‘The Africa We Want’ and the 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development.
The event has already garnered the support of eminent global and African private sector leaders. In the past years we have benefited from the participation of the following leaders: President Paul Kagame of Rwanda; President Uhuru Kenyatta of Kenya; President Filipe Nyusi of Mozambique; President Macky Sall of Senegal; President Mahamadou Issoufou of Niger; President Mokgweetsi Masisi of Botswana; President Ismaïl Omar Guelleh of Djibouti; President Yoweri Museveni of Uganda; and Prime Minister Abiy Ahmed of Ethiopia.
