ADDIS ABABA (Semonegna) – Ethiopia’s transport sector in general and cross regional transport services in particular have been challenged by different problems like poor service delivery, inaccessibility and inconvenience to customers. Kifiya Financial Technology Plc. (Kifiya), in partnership with Federal Transport Authority of Ethiopia and bus associations in the country, has introduced an innovative electronic ticketing fare payment system, named Yene Guzo, to curb these inconveniences by enabling customers to get tickets through multiple channels and book their trips in advance whenever and wherever they are.

Yene Guzo is an innovative solution to introduce electronic ticketing and fare payment system that empowers operators to streamline their services and increase their profits by letting customers book their trips in advance and purchase tickets at over 500 Kifiya agent points.

“Currently, Kifiya is operating an over the counter service automating the manual ticketing and giving service naming Yene Guzo at the five terminals. The service covers all bus associations consisting more than 1,500 bus owners and is serving over 400,000 customer a month” said Abeneazer Wondwossen, Business Development Manager of Kifiya. “Kifiya has begun integration with financial institutions and currently finalized integration with [CBE Birr] to enable commuters to book and buy bus tickets from anywhere and anytime. Soon Kifiya Financial Technology will increase payment options which will increase convenience for commuters,” Ato Abeneazer added.

Yene Guzo features digital trip scheduling system for bus associations and the Federal Transport Authority, electronic payment system, notification system to owners to track departure, number of seats sold, information capturing and dissemination that can be used by the board to make strategic decisions.

The latest release of Yene Guzo also features upgraded functionality that enables customers to book their trip a day prior and get notification of changes that impact planned trips. Furthermore, it creates transparency for bus associations, bus owners and the Federal Transport Authority.

“Aside from online ticketing, Kifiya is also availing a ticketing service on agent points where travelers can book, get their tickets and pay at an agent around in their neighborhood and only go to bus depot to travel having their ticket at their mobile or with normal printouts” according to Ato Abeneazer.
