Jimma University (JU) has signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with Institute of Microbiology of Chinese Academy of Sciences (CAS) on a program held at Institute of Microbiology, Beijing, in Sept, 2017.
Among the main objectives of signing the current MoU were to initiate mutual collaborations in the field of microbiology including joint research project development, and capacity building through staff and student exchanges.
The agreement was signed between Prof. Fikre Lemessa, President of Jimma University and Prof. Shuang-Jiang Liu, Director-General, Institute of Microbiology, CAS. Present on the occasion were Prof. Ketema Bacha, Prof. Feng-Yan Bai, members of Ethiopian academic community, and higher officials of the institute. After signing the MoU, Prof. Shuang-Jiang Liu stated that signing agreement is the first step towards joint venture and opens the way for many more collaboration to come. He appreciated the readiness of JU to work with their institute in particular and Chinese Academy of Sciences, in general.
Prof. Ketema Bacha, delegate of Prof. Fikre Lemessa, also appreciated willingness of the Institutes to work with JU and expressed keenness of Jimma University to strengthen the field of microbiology through collaborative research and exchange of experiences both ways. He also thanked Prof. Shuang-Jiang Liu, and Prof. Feng-Yan Bai for their kind invitation to the 9th Asian Network of Research Resource Centers (ANRRC) International Meeting and International Microbiome workshop, held at Institute of Microbiology, where Prof. Ketema Bacha managed to briefly introduced profile of Jimma University besides making scientific presentation to the gathering from several Asian countries.
